Understanding The Effects Of Insulin In Weight Loss

Insulin is a hormone secreted by the pancreas and is essentially a storage hormone. Each time your body metabolises food items and releases among other things sugar into your bloodstream the pancreas produces insulin to take those sugar degrees back down to usual.

The higher the sugar discharge the more insulin needs to be produced. To give an example a few cookies would result in a major spike in your blood sugar instead of an apple which would illicit a much more modest response (see the glycemic index)

The greater the raise in sugar levels the lower are moved back down, actually to lower than where they were initially. This will then lead in your brain telling you to consume food again to bring them back up again, thus setting off a series of you beginning to feel a desire to feed on quickly discharge types of food items (bread, cakes etc)

The double whammy is that as insulin is a safe-keeping hormone, whilst high levels of it are present in the body not only will your system try to extract and keep as much body fat as possible from the high GI food you have just consumed but your body will also not release any from it's body fat stores.

Basically, consuming these high GI food items not only makes you fat, but it also makes sure you stay like that.

Try to do the following:

Try to obtain the majority of your carbohydrates from veggies (especially lots of the leafy green alkalising ones)

Supplement vegetables consumption with limited quantities of fruits.

Steer clear of the blood sugar spiking carbs such as bread, pasta, cakes, sweets, fruit juices, soft drinks and sweets etc and you'll see the pounds start to come off. Don't get worried about consuming fats, they're important to the body and truly help you lose excess fat.

Just avoid the high omega-6 ones like processed vegetable oils and the trans-fats found in most junk foods.
