With the summer temperatures at maximum, many people will be in the backyard growing lettuce and other summer vegetables for easy table menus. Cucumbers, tomatoes, herbs and other green leafy vegetables will always thrive in an aquaponics set up. Summer conditions along with the natural heat, only help the growing process. Give your seedlings a great start with a little bit of seaweed extract. This is will boost them along on the fast track. One tomato vine in an aquaponics set up can produce somewhere up to sixty pounds in produce. That's amazing when you think about it.

Growth rates of plants in aquaponics systems is rather unique too. While many people believe that hydroponics plants growth rate is fast, aquaponics produce rates can actually outrank hydroponics by up to four times more. Of course this will depend upon the species of the plant and why many gardeners will tell you that tomatoes, lettuce, cucumbers and other vegetables will grow quicker in aquaponics systems. With the regular infusions of nitrogen being passed through the water, the plants themselves can absorb the nutrition very quickly. Soil based produce still requires constant watering and management while the plants themselves take longer to grow.

The most amazing thing about gardening in an aquaponics system through the summer months is the the water. The heat will not affect your plants because there is a regular flow of cool water passing in under the roots from the grow beds. This takes away time and energy spent manually watering your garden in the hot sun.

There is an endless list of vegetables that can be grown. Carrots, garlic, onions and beets can be also grown without too many problems in an aquaponics system. Lavender is a plant that prefers a drier climate but yet it too, can be grown successfully in an aquaponics system. Rosemary is another plant that will thrive in these systems, so there are many different options available to gardeners. In warmer countries around the world, there are well known aquaponics gardeners successfully growing fruit trees such as orange, lemon, mandarins and papaya.

While there are still people who prefer to garden the accustomed way, many more are also becoming aware of the aquaponics way of growing. There are distinct advantages to summer growing with aquaponics, one of which is no longer having to stand in blazing heat to water your garden. Soil based produce takes longer to grow and when it comes to a more confined space, aquaponics food is faster to grow and produces way more results. Please consider an aquaponics system for amazing summer gardening results.
